January 2012 - New AWS Region, Expansion of AWS Direct Connect, new CloudWatch and Autoscaling features, CloudFront news and more

Happy new year! We’re starting the new year with some great announcements, tons of interesting events and a couple new developer resources – all to help you better utilize Amazon Web Services. We recently announced a new AWS region in Brazil, and the global expansion of our AWS Direct Connect services. In addition to these two announcements, we added the Object Expiration feature to Amazon S3, Amazon VPC added support for elastic network interfaces and both Amazon Elastic MapReduce and Amazon SNS announced new features as well. February 2012 - New Amazon Simple Workflow Service and Amazon DynamoDB, More Regions for Amazon ElastiCache, Lower Prices for S3 and More

It’s been a busy and exciting time for AWS and we’ve got tons of interesting news to share with you. We recently launched our NoSQL, SSD-based, highly scalable database service, Amazon DynamoDB, as well as our new Storage Gateway service which connects your on-premises IT environments with cloud storage. We also just launched our workflow service for coordinating application components called Amazon Simple Workflow Service. The AWS team has also been working to provide new features to some of our key services to help you better utilize our products. Amazon Elastic MapReduce, Amazon RDS, AWS CloudFormation, Amazon VPC and more have all come out with new helpful features and our Premium Support team announced an even better way to support you with Trust Advisor and 3rd Party Software Support. Because we know that pricing always matters, we’ve worked to lower pricing for Amazon S3 standard storage which could amount to some serious savings. Lastly, check out our developer resources with new SDKs and toolkits.

March 2012 - More regions for AWS Storage Gateway, DynamoDB, and Elasticache, new features for EC2 and IAM, lower pricing for EC2, RDS, and Elasticache and more

It’s been a long winter, but spring is just around the corner! We’ve been working hard to bring you the services and features you need to better leverage the AWS Cloud into the spring season. One of the best ways we like to help our customers is to lower our pricing. We recently lowered pricing for Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS and Amazon ElastiCache, which could mean potentially significant cost savings for you. We’ve also been expanding many of our services to new regions. Amazon DynamoDB is now available in Japan and Europe, Amazon ElastiCache is available in US West and South America and just announced, AWS Storage Gateway is now available in South America. We also have a couple key upcoming events to help you better utilize our services and learn more about our latest innovations, including our AWS Summit in New York City on April 18th.

April 2012 - AWS Summit 2012 approaches, Amazon CloudSearch is introduced, and there are new features for AWS Elastic Beanstalk, and Amazon RDS, CloudFront and ElastiCache

Spring is here and with it we have lots of interesting news to share! We just announced a brand new search service called Amazon CloudSearch which makes integrating search to your app or website really easy, fast and cost effective. Some of our other services that have released new features include the PHP and Git Deployment for AWS Beanstalk as well as improvements to Amazon CloudFront’s live streaming feature. We also have a couple events to help you better utilize AWS. Our AWS Summit will be in New York, NY on April 19th and our Big Data Conference will be held in Boston, MA on April 27th.

May 2012 - Announcing the first AWS user conference, new software Marketplace, and new regions for Elastic Beanstalk and DynamoDB

Get ready. We just announced our first AWS user conference, AWS re: Invent, to be held at the Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 27-29. This will be an opportunity for new and experienced users to find tools, content and connections that will help you better leverage the AWS Cloud. This last month we also announced a new online store, AWS Marketplace where you can find, buy and deploy software that runs on AWS. On top of that, Elastic Beanstalk and Amazon DynamoDB both expanded to new regions, and to help you better monitor your AWS bill, we launched Billing Alerts for Amazon CloudWatch. For all of those Windows developers out there, we’ve released a couple of new managed services, Amazon RDS for SQL Server and .NET support for Elastic Beanstalk.

June 2012 - Enhanced CSV reports for billing, VM Export capabilities for Amazon EC2, Mechanical Turk introduces the Categorization Application, and more

It’s been another eventful month here at AWS. Amazon RDS recently announced support for Oracle Enterprise Manager and Amazon ELB is can now be used with VPC. Amazon EC2 announced VM Export capabilities and Amazon Mechanical Turk released the new Categorization Application, which allows you to easily get clean data for any categorization project. We also have new and expanded certifications and offerings for SAP on AWS. Finally, to better help you get started with Amazon ElastiCache, we now offer a free trial of this service.

July 2012 - AWS re: Invent details, expanded support, and new features for Amazon EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, Cloudwatch, SES, EMR and VPC

Get the most up to date information about AWS re: Invent, our first global customer and partner conference to be held this November 28-29 in Las Vegas, on our newly launched website. You’ll find pricing information as well as info on tracks, sessions, speakers, and more. We’ve also been working hard to deliver new features for many of our services. AWS Support expanded its Free Tier as well as lowered prices on Premium Tiers, AWS Elastic Beanstalk expanded to new regions, and AWS just announced its offering of a High I/O Quadruple Extra Large, SSD-based instances for Amazon EC2. Amazon CloudFront, Amazon CloudWatch, Amazon SES, Amazon EMR and Amazon VPC also announced features to better help you get the most out of these services.

August 2012 - More re: Invent details released, Provisioned IOPs for Amazon EBS and three new whitepapers

We are happy to share that Netflix, Socialcam, SmugMug, Pinterest and many other customers will be at AWS re: Invent, talking about scalability, cost savings, migration and much more! Be sure to check out the latest on sessions and speakers here. We have also released three new whitepapers this month as well as new episodes of the AWS Report. In addition to these resources, our Amazon EBS service announced the availability of Provisioned IOPs for customers looking to run high performance databases in the AWS Cloud. Amazon DynamoDB and AWS Support also announced new features to better help you use these services.

September 2012 - Amazon Glacier, Reserved Instance Marketplace, and new features for CloudFront, DynamoDB and RDS, plus more AWS re: Invent details

This month we've got more news than ever to share. Since our last newsletter, we introduced Amazon Glacier –an extremely low-cost data archiving and backup storage service, the EC2 Reserved Instance Marketplace, Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) in Amazon S3, and billing improvements through Cost Allocation Reports enabling you to organize and track your AWS costs using tagging. Additionally, numerous new features have rolled out across CloudFront, DynamoDB, RDS, VPC and Auto Scaling, to name just a few. We also have newly published white papers, offerings form the AWS Partner Network and a couple of new case studies featuring AWS customers, Netflix and Nokia Siemens Network. AWS re: Invent continues to pick up steam, especially with the announcement that Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon, has been added to the conference agenda!

October 2012 –Web Page Redirects on Amazon S3, AWS GovCloud, new features for RDS, CloudFront, EC2, and more - plus 5 weeks to AWS re: Invent!

Many exciting new features and services have rolled out in the past several weeks, including support for web page redirects on Amazon S3, new features and services in the AWS GovCloud region, and numerous roll-outs enhancing Amazon RDS. Amazon SES launched the Mailbox Simulator, enabling customers to test generic email responses without sending to actual recipients. December 2012 – Amazon Redshift, lower prices for Amazon S3, additions to AWS regions and catching up on AWS re: Invent

Our first global customer and partner conference, AWS re: Invent, has come and gone. With 6000 of you from 62 countries in attendance, the energy and excitement was amazing. Thank you. You can catch up with the keynotes, sessions, attendee interviews and slide decks at the AWS YouTube channel and Slideshare. Amidst the conference fervor, we introduced Amazon Redshift and announced our 24th AWS price reduction with Amazon S3 standard storage and RRS. We expanded features and support across Amazon Glacier, ElastiCache, RDS, and VPC, to name a few, and made additions to the Singapore, Sao Paolo and GovCloud regions. We're ringing in the New Year with a fresh calendar of webinars and training events. And mark your calendar for the Global Start-up Challenge Finale Celebration in January.
