Important changes to Amazon DevPay pricing and policy

Based on feedback from our developer community, we are pleased to announce that we have made changes to Amazon DevPay pricing and policy that should make it more attractive for you to sell your products and services using Amazon DevPay. Amazon DevPay is a simple-to-use online billing and account management service that makes it easy for businesses to sell applications that are built in, or run on top of, Amazon Web Services.

We have lowered Amazon DevPay charges so that developers will now pay the 3.0% fee only on their value-add (the amount they charge on top of the cost of AWS services such as Amazon S3 or EC2). Until now, Amazon DevPay charged you 3.0% of your customer’s total bill, including the underlying AWS service charges. Since the Amazon DevPay fee now applies only to your value-add, you will now more easily be able to pass on the cost of AWS services to your customers without marking them up to cover Amazon DevPay fees; many customers have expressed their desire to see the pricing model work this way. The Amazon DevPay transaction fee remains at $0.30 per product for each customer bill collected.

In addition, developers will now only be charged for the cost of AWS services (e.g., Amazon S3, EC2) consumed by their customer up to the amount the customer actually pays. Until now, you have been responsible for the cost of all AWS services consumed by your customers, whether they actually pay or not. Thus we now share any risk of customer nonpayment with you.
