Announcing Amazon EC2 Spot Integration with Amazon VPC

Posted on: Oct 11, 2011

We are excited to introduce the combination of two popular features, Spot Instances and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). Starting today, you can now bid for unused Amazon EC2 capacity and run those instances within your own Amazon VPC, potentially saving between 50%-66% less than the On-Demand price. By integrating Amazon VPC with Spot Instances, you can provision a private virtual network that you control, including selection of IP address range, creation of subnets, and configuration of route tables and network gateways.

With this new feature, you can now bid for instances in Amazon VPC when you request a Spot instance. Similar to traditional Spot Instances, customers whose bids exceed the Spot price gain access to the available Spot Instances and run as long as the bid exceeds the Spot Price. Once launched, you can leverage all of the existing Amazon VPC features you use with other Amazon EC2 instances.
