New Prep Class for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional Exam

by Jeff Barr | on | in Training | | Comments

Are you planning to take the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional exam? If so, we have a new full-day workshop to help you prepare.

The new AWS Certification Exam Readiness Workshop provides an overview of the concepts and knowledge areas covered on the Solutions Architect—Professional exam, and walks you through the exam structure and question formats. You’ll take labs that provide hands-on practice with advanced use cases and practice with exam questions that test your understanding of key architectural concepts.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll also receive a voucher to take an additional online practice exam at no cost.

The new Solutions Architect—Professional exam readiness workshop is designed to complement our three-day Advanced Architecting on AWS technical course, which we recommend taking first. Check the AWS Global Class Schedule to find an upcoming session of either training course near you.

New Training to Help You Prepare for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Exam

by Jeff Barr | on | in Training | | Comments

My colleague Janna Pellegrino sent me a guest post to introduce some new materials to help you to prepare for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect exam!

Jeff;

Are you planning to take the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate exam?  We now have a new half-day workshop to help you prepare.  Designed to complement the technical training in the Architecting on AWS course, this supplemental workshop helps you to get ready to take the exam.  We recommend that you take Architecting on AWS before taking the workshop.

In the AWS Certification Exam Readiness Workshop: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, we review what to expect at the testing center and while taking the exam. We walk you through how the exam is structured, as well as teach you how to interpret the concepts being tested so that you can better eliminate incorrect responses.  You will also have the chance to test concepts we cover through a series of practice exam questions.  At the end of the class, you will receive a voucher to take an online practice exam at no cost.

Check out the schedule of upcoming training classes for more information!

New Introductory AWS Videos & Labs – DynamoDB, Elastic Beanstalk, and Elastic MapReduce

by Jeff Barr | on | in Training | | Comments

Earlier this year, I wrote about our Free AWS Instructional Videos and the associated AWS labs. The videos and the labs will help you to get started using an AWS Service in about 30 minutes.

We have recently added three new videos and labs to go along with them:

  • Introduction to Amazon DynamoDB – Video / Lab
  • Introduction to AWS Elastic Beanstalk – Video / Lab
  • Introduction to Amazon Elastic MapReduce – Video / Lab.

Each “Introduction to AWS” topic includes a short video to help you learn key concepts and terminology as well as see a step-by-step console demonstration. After watching the video, you can get hands-on practice using that AWS service with a self-paced training lab. The videos and labs are available on-demand and at no cost.

Big Data Update – New Blog and New Web-Based Training

by Jeff Barr | on | in Big Data, Training | | Comments

The topic of big data comes up almost every time I meet with current or potential AWS customers. They want to store, process, and extract meaning from data sets that seemingly grow in size with every meeting.

In order to help our customers to understand the full spectrum of AWS resources that are available for use on their big data problems, we are introducing two new resources — a new AWS Big Data Blog and web-based training on Big Data Technology Fundamentals.

AWS Big Data Blog
The AWS Big Data Blog is a way for data scientists and developers to learn big data best practices, discover which managed AWS Big Data services are the best fit for their use case, and help them get started on AWS big data services. Our goal is to make this the hub for developers to discover new ways to collect, store, clean, process, and visualize data at any scale.

Readers will find short tutorials with code samples, case studies that demonstrate the unique benefits of doing big data on AWS, new feature announcements, partner- and customer-generated demos and tutorials, and tips and best practices for using AWS big data services.

The first two posts on the blog show you how to Build a Recommender with Apache Mahout on Amazon Elastic MapReduce and how to Power Gaming Applications with Amazon DynamoDB.

Big Data Training
If you are looking for a structured way to learn more about the tools, techniques, and options available to you as you learn more about big data, our new web-based Big Data Technology Fundamentals course should be of interest to you.

You should plan to spend about three hours going through this course. You will first learn how to identify common tools and technologies that can be used to create big data solutions. Then you will gain an understanding of the MapReduce framework, including the map, shuffle and sort, and reduce components. Finally, you will learn how to use the Pig and Hive programming frameworks to analyze and query large amounts of data.

You will need a working knowledge of programming in Java, C#, or a similar language in order to fully benefit from this training course.

The web-based course is offered at no charge, and can be used on its own or to prepare for our instructor-led Big Data on AWS course.

New Training Course – Big Data on AWS

by Jeff Barr | on | in Training | | Comments

We have added a new Big Data course to the AWS Training program.

The three day, instructor-led course is designed to teach you how to use Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Elastic MapReduce and important Hadoop tools such as Pig and Hive. The course will show you how to create big data environments and how to leverage best practices for security and cost effectiveness.

This hands-on course is designed for Data Scientists, Data Analysts, and Enterprise Big Data Solution Architects. We recommend that attendees have a basic familiarity with big data technologies including Apache Hadoop and HDFS, a working knowledge of core AWS services and public cloud implementation, and a basic understanding of data warehousing, relational database systems, and database design.

Upcoming classes include:

  • April 22 – Redwood City, CA
  • May 6 – So Paulo, Brazil (Portugus)
  • May 21 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Portugus)
  • June 3 – New York, NY
