EC2 Mobile started as a requirement to launch, manage and monitor our clients' servers. When remote this is sometimes difficult and response time is of utmost priority. This was our mobile solution to this requirement.

EC2 Mobile will allow anyone to start, stop and monitor Amazon AWS EC2 instances and images. You can launch new instances from any public or private image as well as monitor for the status of these images.

Although not as feature-rich as other client applications, no mobile solution gives you the ability to be a mobile system administrator to your clients as well as EC2 Mobile.

Only in version 1.0, EC2 Mobile has already delivered all of the functionality required to perform your job. We invite your feedback.

The expected usage pattern is the launching of private AMI images which list quite quickly, but the ability to list and launch all public AMI images is also available.

When launching images you have the ability to select the instance type (size), availability zone, quantity of instances, security group, security key and user data to send to the new instance. All of the similar controls you are given in the Amazon AWS Console are available remotely within EC2 Mobile.

If you're like us, you likely have more than one EC2 profile. Storing and switching between these in EC2 Mobile is a snap: simply enter each of your access and secret key information into a named profile and switch between the primary profile as necessary.

When you switch between profiles you are switching your view of images and running instances as well as your security groups and security keys when launching instances. It's that easy!

Although limited in version 1.0, you will find that you have the basics required to monitor your running instances. You have the ability to view the console output as well as list your running instances. Even copying your public IP address to the clipboard to paste into an SSH or RDP session, or even an email, is all built in.

You can terminate instances just as easily as you start them by simply choosing so from instance menu.
