We are excited to announce SSL encryption support for Amazon RDS for SQL Server. You can now use SSL to encrypt SQL Server connections between your applications and your RDS SQL Server instances. SSL support is available in all AWS regions for all SQL Server editions, including Express, Web, Standard, and Enterprise.

With the addition of SSL support, you can now secure your data both 'in transit' via SSL and 'at rest' using column level encryption. These two features combined with Amazon VPC provide you with a comprehensive approach to protecting your data and isolating your RDS SQL Server instances.
