Today, we are announcing the availability of Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager in the AWS Secret Region. Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager helps customers automate the creation, sharing, copying and retention of Amazon EBS Snapshots and EBS-backed AMIs via custom-built policies. Data Lifecycle Manager eliminates the need for complicated custom scripts to manage your EBS resources, saving you time and money.
You can create Lifecycle Manager policies that automatically create snapshots of individual EBS volumes and multi-volume crash-consistent snapshots of a group of EBS volumes attached to EC2 instances. You can also configure your policies to copy tags from instances and volumes to the AMIs and snapshots that are created, as well as automatically share and copy your EBS resources to another region or account for disaster recovery. With EBS-backed AMI policies, you can set Data Lifecycle Manager to automatically share, deprecate, and deregister AMIs. Data Lifecycle Manager will also automatically delete underlying snapshots when AMIs are deregistered, ensuring you do not pay for AMI snapshots that are no longer required.
To get started, tag your instances and volumes, and start creating lifecycle policies via Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager. You can create the policies in the AWS Management Console, from the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) or via the Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager APIs.
