Posted on: Aug 22, 2012

We are very happy to announce the availability of Amazon EC2 Cluster Compute Eight Extra Large instances in the US West (Oregon) region.

Cluster Compute Eight Extra Large (cc2.8xlarge) instances provide elastic supercomputing class performance using Intel Xeon E5 processors and high bandwidth, low latency networking. Customers use cc2.8xlarge instances for a variety of scientific, engineering and business applications, and can now run these applications on the US West Coast in addition to existing availability in the US East (N. Virginia) and EU West (Ireland) regions. Customers can launch instances immediately in a single availability zone, including Amazon Virtual Private Cloud. Customers can purchase instances as On Demand, Reserved or Spot Instances. Pricing in the US West (Oregon) region is the same as the US (N. Virginia) region.

You can find more information about Cluster Compute Instances on the Amazon EC2 Instance Types page. To get started with cluster computing on Amazon EC2, visit the Amazon EC2 User Guide. We are also providing a new CloudFormation template that launches a 8-node cluster with MIT StarCluster and includes examples for MPI applications.
