Amazon Elastic Transcoder Announces Visual Watermarking and Other Enhancements

Posted on: Jul 8, 2013

We are excited to announce three new enhancements to Amazon Elastic Transcoder that enable you to add visual watermarks to transcoded video output, and give you greater control over bit rates and frame rates for your transcoded output.

  • Visual watermarking lets you overlay up to four still images on your output video. To watermark your output videos, simply provide a file containing a PNG or JPG image and use a transcoding preset to specify position, scale, sizing, and opacity information for the watermark. One of the ways that you can use this feature is to add program or other identification logos to your output.
  • Maximum video bit rate parameter lets you limit the instantaneous bit rate in your output video. This is useful when you need to generate an output file with a limited or capped maximum bit rate, which may be required to meet the playback specifications for certain devices.
  • Maximum frame rate parameter lets you specify a maximum frame rate value for your output video. This is useful when you wish to maintain the frame rate of the source media except in cases where it would otherwise exceed a certain frame rate threshold. A common example would be to down-convert 60 fps content for a device that can only handle up to 30 fps.

You can immediately get started with these new features by using the Amazon Elastic Transcoder API or the AWS Management Console. There is no additional cost for using these new features – you continue to pay the current prices for your HD and SD video transcoding.

To see these new features in action, don’t forget to register for the “What’s New with Amazon Elastic Transcoder” webinar on Wednesday July 24th at 10 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time). You can register for the webinar here.
