Amazon Route 53 Announces Health Check Failure Reasons and Reusable Delegation Sets
We are excited to announce the release of health check failure reasons and reusable delegation sets for Amazon Route 53, AWS’s highly available and scalable DNS service.
For customers using Route 53’s health checks for website monitoring and DNS failover, health check failure reasons are now displayed in the Route 53 console and available via the Route 53 API. You can now see the current status of a particular health check, as well as details on why a health check has failed. These include HTTP error codes, string matching failures, or response timeouts.
With reusable delegation sets, you can now apply the same set of four Route 53 authoritative name servers, known collectively as a delegation set, to multiple hosted zones corresponding to different domain names. For customers with large numbers of domain names, reusable delegation sets make migration to Route 53 simple, because you can instruct your domain name registrar to use the same delegation set for all your domains managed by Route 53. This feature also makes it possible for you to create “white label” name server addresses such as ns1.example.com, ns2.example.com, etc., which you can point to your Route 53 name servers. You can then use your “white label” name server addresses as the authoritative name servers for as many of your domain names as desired.
