Getting Started with this AMI

If you are a new user of the Amazon EC2 environment, we recommend one of three options for getting started.

Please note the following about this particular AMI.

  • While there is no charge for use of the Sybase software, you will be billed by Amazon for running the AMI and for storage.
  • When you create your AMI instance, you will get a new Windows Administrator password.
  • When you launch your AMI instance the first time, you will be prompted to accept the Sybase Developer Edition license agreement. With acceptance, you will be licensed for development use only.
  • The AMI has been installed with the Sybase ASE demo database Pubs3.ASE and the backupserver are configured to start up when the instance boots. If it does not start up, start it up like this: Start...All Programs...Sybase...Sybase ASE 15.0...Start Sybase ASE Server.
  • Start Sybase Central to connect to and administer the database: Start...All Programs...Sybase...Sybase Central. ; Start...All Programs...Sybase...Sybase Central.
  • There are links on the desktop to Sybooks with local copies of the documentation for the installed products
  • There are no other databases currently installed on the AMI.  If you want to create a database on the file system of the AMI, create it on the D: drive which has 147GB of free space.  If you want to create a database on a raw device, see the following to learn how to use Amazon Web Services Elastic Block Storage (EBS) to attach storage to your AMI instance: http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/connect/entry.jspa?externalID=1667&categoryID=174
