We are excited to announce a new feature for Elastic Load Balancing: Access Logs. This feature records all requests sent to your load balancer, and stores the logs in Amazon S3 for later analysis.
With Access Logs, you can obtain request-level details in addition to the existing load balancer metrics provided via Amazon CloudWatch. The logs contain information such as client IP address, request path, latencies, and server responses. You can use this data to pinpoint when application errors occurred or response times increased, and which requests were impacted.
These logs can also be used for web analytics to determine popular pages, page trends over time, or unique visitors. To make this analysis easier, we have integrated with Amazon Elastic MapReduce as well as analytics tools from our partners, Splunk and Sumo Logic.
