Amazon and Oracle have worked together to offer customers convenient options for deploying enterprise applications on the cloud. Customers can not only build enterprise-grade solutions hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS) using database and middleware software by Oracle, but they can also launch entire enterprise software stacks from Oracle on EC2.
You can use Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Enterprise Linux to build enterprise-grade solutions in the cloud, leveraging the virtually unlimited compute power and storage of Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition, Amazon RDS for Oracle provides managed Oracle database deployments that are easy to set up and operate, freeing you up to focus on application development by managing time-consuming database administration tasks including provisioning, backups, software patching, monitoring, and hardware scaling.
Hosting Oracle-based solutions in AWS enables you to use proven database and middleware within a proven cloud computing platform, providing significant reliability and performance with the cost-savings of cloud-based infrastructure. Together, Amazon and Oracle provide businesses with a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective business application platform.
The Oracle on AWS Test Drive program allows customers to quickly and easily try solutions using pre-configured Oracle database, middleware and applications on AWS via a series of hands-on labs. These labs explore common use-cases such as backing up a database to the Amazon Simple Storage Service; setting up high available systems using Oracle Data Guard; using Oracle Business Intelligence applications to gain business insights; using E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft or JD-Edwards.
Built by AWS and Oracle Partner Network members, the Test Drive labs make it easy to see the unique features and capabilities that Oracle software provides, cutting the evaluation cycle time down to minutes, not months.

Pay only for the cloud resources used.
Eliminate hard to maintain tape backup processes and infrastructure.
Add new AWS cloud infrastructure services on demand in minutes.
Secure and durable technology platform with industry-recognized certifications and audits.
Highly reliable services and multiple fault-tolerant Availability Zones for robust disaster recovery implementations.
Deploy Oracle-based business applications quickly without waiting for hardware to arrive.
Oracle customers can now license Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Enterprise Manager to run in the AWS cloud computing environment. Oracle customers can also use their existing software licenses on Amazon EC2 with no additional license fees. So, whether you're a long-time Oracle customer or a looking to get started, AWS can get you started in the quickly.
Amazon RDS for Oracle makes it easy to set up, operate, and scale Oracle Database deployments in the cloud. With Amazon RDS, you can deploy multiple editions of Oracle Database 11g in minutes with cost-efficient and re-sizable hardware capacity. Amazon RDS automatically patches the database software and backs up your database, storing the backups for a user-defined retention period and enabling point-in-time recovery. You benefit from the flexibility of being able to scale the compute resources or storage capacity associated with your Oracle database instance via a single API call. In addition, Amazon RDS Multi-AZ deployments makes it easy to use replication to enhance availability and reliability for production databases.
You can run Amazon RDS for Oracle under two different licensing models – “License Included” and “Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL)”. In the "License Included" service model, you do not need separately purchased Oracle licenses; the Oracle Database software has been licensed by AWS. If you already own Oracle Database licenses, you can use the "BYOL" model to run Oracle deployments on Amazon RDS.
Amazon Web Services and Oracle have ensured that a wide selection of Oracle enterprise software has been certified to run on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Customers who power their business with Oracle software can fully leverage the scalability, reliability, and utility-based pricing model of AWS for production workloads with full support from Oracle and AWS.
A set of platform and application templates that customers can run as instances on Amazon EC2 are now available (go to the Oracle AMIs). These templates reduce implementation times from days to minutes and include Oracle Enterprise Linux, Oracle Database 11gR2, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One, and Oracle PeopleSoft.
In addition to minimizing installation and hardware maintenance costs, these templates enable customers to easily take advantage of existing AWS features such as Amazon Elastic Load Balancing, Auto-Scaling, Security Groups, and Amazon CloudWatch when deploying Oracle applications on Amazon Web Services.
