Amazon Elastic MapReduce Announces Support for HBase

Posted on: Jun 12, 2012

We’re excited to announce support for running Apache HBase on Amazon Elastic MapReduce, bringing real-time data access to Hadoop in the cloud. HBase is a distributed, column-oriented data store that provides strictly consistent reads and writes, automatic sharding of tables, and efficient storage of large quantities of sparse data. It is built to work seamlessly with Hadoop, sharing its file system and serving as the input and output for MapReduce jobs run in Hadoop. In addition, HBase on EMR provides customers the ability to perform full and incremental backups to Amazon S3 with the option of guaranteed consistency.
