We are excited to announce availability of new cache node types for Amazon ElastiCache:
- Micro Cache Node Type (cache.t1.micro) in all regions except Asia Pacific (Sydney). A Micro cache node type comes with 213 MB of memory and is designed for lower traffic web applications, test applications and small projects. Our customers had asked for a lower entry point to get started with caching which we’re happy to address with this launch.
- Medium Cache Node Type (cache.m1.medium) in all regions except Asia Pacific (Sydney). A Medium cache node type has 3.35 GB of memory and fits between the Small and Large cache nodes types, and is ideal for workloads requiring more memory than that of a Small, and where a Large would be considered too much.
- Enhanced Extra Large Cache Node Type (cache.m3.xlarge) in US East (Northern Virginia). An Enhanced Extra Large cache node type is built on the next generation AWS infrastructure and has 14.6 GB of memory.
- Enhanced Double Extra Large Cache Node Type (cache.m3.2xlarge) in US East (Northern Virginia). Similar to cache.m3.xlarge, an Enhanced Double Extra Large cache node type is also built on the next generation AWS infrastructure and has 29.6 GB of memory.
Amazon ElastiCache improves the performance of your web applications by retrieving data from a fast, in-memory cache instead of relying entirely on disk-based storage. Unlike other caching mechanisms, Amazon ElastiCache is fully-managed so you don’t have to worry about maintaining your own caching infrastructure. In addition, it is Memcached-compatible, so if you have existing Memcached-enabled applications, they should work with ElastiCache without any code changes.
