While Channel Dynamix originally reviewed Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the benefit of on-demand infrastructure to support their clients’ Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) requirements, they chose AWS primarily for the feature-set and maturity of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) platform. Channel Dynamix uses the Amazon EC2 API and Amazon SDKs to aid with monitoring and management for cloud servers, based upon:
Channel Dynamix provides clients with their Managed Private Cloud offering that utilizes Amazon EC2 and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). Once a client’s environment is configured within AWS, Channel Dynamix provides on-going management through their Above the OS support service.
When Channel Dynamix client EmLogis developed a breakthrough solution for employee logistics and was looking to scale their platform to address a growing customer base and more complex requirements, Channel Dynamix supported EmLogis with the transition to the Amazon EC2 infrastructure for Production and Test deployments, taking advantage of the key offerings and optimizations the AWS platform provides. Channel Dynamix states that its implementation times for new Production and Test instances radically improved with AWS, from two days to less than two hours, and this reduction in response time provided a significant impact on the effectiveness of IT Operations at EmLogis.
“As a small Independent software vendor, EmLogis is challenged with needing to do more with less,” says EmLogis CTO, Vice President of Services, Marc Mangus. “We needed access to test servers on-demand and also to provide our customers with production-hosted servers with world-class reliability and security. We were able to get both from Amazon, along with great customer support with the ‘pay as you go’ pricing structure.”
Once Channel Dynamix standardized the implementation process for server provisioning and management and made use of Amazon EC2’s dashboard and Amazon Machine Image (AMI), their highly-technical resources were able to play a reduced role in day-to-day operations and setup of new servers.
“The reduction in resource requirements results in significant cost savings that simply cannot be achieved with on-premise IT infrastructure,” says Channel Dynamix COO Joe Alapat. “Amazon EC2 fulfilled the promise of cloud-based infrastructure for us, providing a solid foundation for our Managed Private Cloud and Above the OS Server support offerings.”
