AWS Case Study: iBay365

CTO Jutian Pan at iBay 365 explains how the company is using AWS to power its web-based ERP system:

Hi Pan, briefly tell us about your business.
We provide a web-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System that integrates many platforms (like eBay, Amazon, web-shop etc.) for cross-board traders to manage their whole business supply chain.

iBay365

Our main service offers the following features:

  • Product Management- Users can manage their products listed on eBay.  Management features include multi-language descriptions, inventory control (related to eBay listings), cost control, price management, etc.
  • Listing Center – A whole solution for eBay listings, including list building, checking, insertion, scheduled listing, relisting, revision, second offers, and listing analysis.
  • Sales Management- eBay orders and payment status are synchronized. Users can operate a batch job of several orders. A personal sales report is supported.
  • Customer Service - Users can handle eBay messages, feedback, and disputes in one user interface. With related buyer information and a translation engine included in the interface, cross-board traders can offer a superior level of service.
  • Logistics - Users can export an eBay order in several formats for different international logistics as well as print shipping labels directly from the program.

By using iBay 365's ERP system, cross-board traders can simplify their work flow and improve the level of service they offer within eBay. Using iBay 365's ERP system, cross-board traders can achieve a standard and effective eBay business.

iBay 365 is based in China and currently has 2000+ users from around the world.

How have you incorporated Amazon Web Services as part of your architecture? What services are you using and how?
Currently, we are using Amazon EC2 to host our database, web services, and cache; Amazon S3 to host users' products and images; and Elastic Load Balancing.

What programming languages and/or tools did you use to build this solution?
We use mostly Python and the Python libraries build on top of the Amazon EC2 API.

Why did you decide to use AWS?
We were looking for a stable solution with complete and easy management options.  AWS fit our requirements.

How has AWS helped your business?
AWS allows us to focus more on our business, without the hassle of hosting and managing costly hardware.

Can you share any metrics on your usage of AWS to date?
With its low price hosting, AWS makes expanding easy for start-up companies. By using AWS, we estimate saving 80% of the time it would have taken us to purchase hardware and install software and systems for an on-site physical infrastructure.

Do you have any future plans to incorporate other AWS solutions?
We're moving more projects to the AWS platform. Currently, we just use Amazon S3 to host coomao.com's product image. However, we would like to move the English site to AWS to serve users outside of China.
