12:30PM-1:30PM AWS OpsWorks Under the Hood AWS OpsWorks helps you deploy and operate applications of all shapes and sizes. With AWS OpsWorks, you can model your application stack with layers that define the building blocks of your application: load balancers, application servers, databases, etc. But did you know that you can also extend AWS OpsWorks layers or build your own custom layers? Whether you need to perform a specific task or install a new software package, AWS OpsWorks gives you the tools to install and configure your instances consistently and help them evolve in an automated and predictable fashion. In this session, we dive into the development process including how to use attributes, recipes, and lifecycle events; show how to develop your environment locally; and provide troubleshooting steps that reduce your development time.Register here »
2PM-3PM Deploy, Manage, and Scale Your Apps with AWS OpsWorks and AWS Elastic Beanstalk  AWS offers a number of services that help you easily deploy and run applications in the cloud. Come to this session to learn how to choose among these options. Through interactive demonstrations, this session shows you how to get an application running using AWS OpsWorks and AWS Elastic Beanstalk application management services. You also learn how to use AWS CloudFormation templates to document, version control, and share your application configuration. This session covers application updates, customization, and working with resources such as load balancers and databases.Register here »
3PM-4PM Introduction to AWS CloudFormation  AWS CloudFormation simplifies provisioning and management on AWS. You can templatize the services and applications you want to run on AWS, and have CloudFormation use the templates for quickly and reliably provisioning or updating those services and applications. CloudFormation can also be easily integrated with other tools of your choice. This introductory session will help you jump start your AWS projects with AWS CloudFormation. Register here »
4:30PM-5:30PM AWS CloudFormation Best Practices With AWS CloudFormation you can model, provision, and update the full breadth of AWS resources. You can manage anything from a single Amazon EC2 instance to a multi-tier application.

If you are familiar with AWS CloudFormation or using it already, this session is for you. If you are familiar with AWS CloudFormation, you may have questions such as ‘How do I plan my stacks?’, ‘How do I deploy & bootstrap software on my stacks?’ and ‘Where does AWS CloudFormation fit in a DevOps pipeline?’ If you are using AWS CloudFormation already, you may have questions such as ‘How do I manage my templates at scale?’, ‘How do I safely update stacks?’, and ‘How do I audit changes to my stack?’ This session is intended to answer those questions.

Behind the Scenes with Deliv.co – "Managing VPC Infrastructure with OpsWorks" This talk will focus on using Amazon OpsWorks to manage nearly your entire VPC infrastructure with a theme of knowing "just enough" to do the right thing. Details include managing multiple environments (prod, sandbox, staging, etc.), VPC constructs (e.g. NAT boxes), release process (e.g. Rails asset compilation and Rake tasks), load balancing (ELBs and haproxy for white-listable static inbound IPs), security (Bastion hosts, system-level users, sudo and console access), custom layer types, third party tools, etc. We'll also discuss learnings from our migration from "EC2 Classic" to VPC (selecting a /16 CIDR block, picking a subnet strategy, using NACLs, and the joy of tags). Special Event with Chef "The Lean Enterprise: Book Signing and Q&A with Jez Humble" Companies like Amazon, Google and Netflix have shown that software can provide a powerful competitive advantage to organizations experimenting with disruptive business models. However in more traditional organizations, where IT is “just a department”, it’s easy to be cynical about the transformative power of software development. The main barriers are cultural and architectural – and of course, these concerns are linked.

This is the premise of The Lean Enterprise, the new book co-authored by industry luminary Jez Humble. During this special evening event, Jez will conduct a Q&A session on the principles that enable rapid software-driven innovation at scale by harnessing your organization’s true competitive advantage – the ingenuity of its employees.

Book signings will follow the Q&A, and food and beverages will be served. Register here »
