AWS OpsWorks Supports Chef 12 for Linux
You can now use Chef 12 to configure and manage Linux on your Amazon EC2 and on-premises instances. This is in addition to existing Chef 12 support in AWS OpsWorks for Windows. OpsWorks is a service that helps you automate operational tasks like code deployment, software configurations, package installations, database setups, and server scaling using Chef.
You can now leverage the full suite of Chef 12 features to configure and manage Linux and Windows servers on AWS. You can now use any cookbook created and maintained by the Chef community to launch application servers such as PHP, Node.js, Rails, MySQL, and more. As a result, you no longer have to adapt your cookbooks before using them in OpsWorks. The OpsWorks built-in layers are not supported in Chef 12. This lets you leverage a wider selection of cookbooks and helps you customize OpsWorks to your specific needs. You can now also use native Chef Search functions to find information about your stacks, layers, and instances. Previously, searching for environment resources in OpsWorks required different syntax from searching in a native Chef environment.
