Amazon EC2 Convertible RIs - Now Available for a 1 Year Term and supports Splits & Merges
In September 2016, we introduced Convertible RIs which provide customers with the flexibility to change an RI’s instance type, OS, tenancy or payment option during its term. Today, we are announcing a few enhancements to Convertible RIs.
First, you can now purchase Convertible RIs for a 1 year term. Until today, Convertible RIs were only available with a 3 year term. While customers have told us they like the flexibility of Convertible RIs, some have said that they want to make a shorter commitment. Now customers can get the flexibility of Convertible RIs with a shorter term length.
Additionally, we have improved the Convertible RI exchange process by adding the ability for customers to exchange a portion of an RI as well as merge the value from multiple RIs for use in a single exchange. These enhancements provide more flexibility when exchanging your Convertible RIs.
