CloudWatch Application Insights adds EBS volume and API Gateway metrics

Amazon CloudWatch Application Insights, adds additional storage volume metrics to provide further insights to your storage performance and health along with the new ability to monitor your API Gateway functions. CloudWatch Application Insights is a capability that helps enterprise customers easily setup application monitoring and enhanced observability for AWS resources. The new Elastic Block Store (EBS) metrics provide further details on storage volumes. The integration with the API Gateway service provides insights to the various API commands run through the gateway. 

CloudWatch Application Insights already provides monitoring on a variety of disk metrics including read and write bytes, balances, free space and more. The new metrics expand coverage on the volume side adding read, write, queue length and idle information for your storage volumes. With API Gateway integration, you can now track and monitor creating, publishing, maintaining, monitoring and securing functions for REST, HTTP and WebSocket APIs that are using the gateway service. 

Amazon CloudWatch Application Insights provides simple setup of observability for your enterprise applications and underlying AWS resources. To get started, access the CloudWatch Application Insights setup wizard from the settings menu in the CloudWatch console. After quickly getting setup, you can use CloudWatch Automatic Dashboards to visualize problem details to assist application owners troubleshoot faster and reduce their mean time to resolution. CloudWatch Application Insights is available in all AWS public regions at no additional charge. Depending on your setup, you may incur small fees for monitoring data set up on CloudWatch.
