AWS Application Migration Service (AWS MGN) is announcing support for several new migration and modernization features, including application and wave management, custom modernization actions, and launch template configuration. Application Migration Service helps minimize time-intensive manual processes by automating the conversion of your source servers to run natively on AWS with optional modernization features.

You can now use Application Migration Service to group related source servers into applications and to group applications into planned migration waves. This allows you to use Application Migration Service to perform bulk actions across your applications and waves, and track your migration project at the wave and application level. Application Migration Service also now supports defining custom modernization actions in addition to preconfigured application modernization actions. These modernization actions are applied to your migrated applications when you launch them on AWS.

You can also now configure a launch template to define the default launch settings Application Migration Service applies to your source servers. This allows you to use a single template to define how migrated instances are launched in your AWS account, and helps reduce error-prone manual steps. You can continue to modify settings for specific source servers as needed.

Additional new features include support for a no rescan on reboot capability for both Windows and Linux source servers, and support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating systems. For new users, the Application Migration Service Console also now provides a simplified service setup and initialization process.

Starting today, these features are available in all of the AWS Regions where Application Migration Service is supported. Access the AWS Regional Services List for the most up-to-date availability information.
