Amazon WorkSpaces Web is a flexible, secure, and cost-effective cloud-based secure browsing solution designed to revolutionize the way your team secures access to company websites and SaaS web applications. Eligible accounts will not receive a monthly active user charge from Amazon WorkSpaces Web for up to 30 users, for 3 months, per AWS account.

The offer takes effect when your first monthly active user signs into a WorkSpaces Web portal. Total monthly active users is calculated at the account level; so you have flexibility to create and use multiple web portals in different Regions during the free trial.

Eligibility

All AWS accounts are eligible for this offer, unless they've previously been charged for one (1) or more WorkSpaces Web monthly active users in the same account, or by another member of their AWS Organization.

How to add the free trial offer to your AWS account

1. Click here and sign in to your AWS account.
2. Select “Activate for your account” to apply the offer to your AWS account.

Example

If you add the offer to your account in a given month, but do not have any active users until the following month, your 3 month trial will start in the following month (e.g., add in April, start using in May with 3 month free trial until the end of July). During the trial, if you have 31 users in a given month, your account will be charged for one monthly active user (see below for pricing for each AWS region). Customers may still incur charges from other AWS services used in conjunction with Amazon WorkSpaces Web during the free trial (e.g., EC2, S3, Kinesis Data Streams, etc.).

If your account is a member of an AWS Organization, the free trial will apply to all member accounts. For example, if you create a portal and have 17 users, and another member account creates a portal with 14 users, you will be charged for one monthly active user. You will still incur charges from other AWS services used in conjunction with Amazon WorkSpaces Web during the free trial (e.g., EC2, S3, etc.).

With WorkSpaces Web, you pay a flat fee for each individual monthly active user (MAU) who accesses a unique portal during the month. A user is counted as a MAU if, within a calendar month, that user signs into a WorkSpaces Web portal. Each user has up to 200 streaming hours included in the monthly active user fee. If a unique user streams more than 200 hours in a given month, you will be charged for each additional hour of streaming. You are not charged for inactive users within a calendar month.

The cost for each monthly active user is determined based on which instance type you select. You can change the instance type at any time. At the end of the month, you will be charged based on the largest instance type used during a calendar month (see pricing example below for more details).

WorkSpaces Web offers 3 instance types; standard.regular, standard.large, and standard.xlarge. All portals are created with standard.regular instances, which are optimized for websites primarily composed of static text and images (e.g.: Wikis, directories, web-based email, etc.). These are the lowest-cost instances offered.

You can choose standard.large instances to double the amount of memory for the portal. More memory can improve performance for sites that process queries from remote datasets, and offers a better user experience for use cases that require switching between multiple tabs or windows.

Standard.xlarge instances have twice the CPU and four times the amount of memory compared with standard.regular instances. For use cases that require real-time video or audio streaming, CPU is critical. Administrators should consider this instance types for use cases that involve streaming audio and/or video, supporting real-time collaboration, screen sharing, video conferencing, or processing large files.

If you create a portal on standard.regular instance in US East (Northern Virginia) for a group of 100 users, but only 10 of the users sign in during the first calendar month, you will only be charged for 10 users. Your bill will be $70 (10 x $7/MAU) for up to 200 hours of streaming per user, plus any applicable tax. If one of your users streams 300 hours, you will be charged $3.50 (100 x $0.035/additional streaming hour) for that user, and your total bill will be $73.50, plus any applicable tax. If none of your users accesses any content within a calendar month, you will not be charged during that calendar month.

Your bill reflects the largest instance type each user uses with your portal in a given month. For example, if your portal has 3 users on the standard.regular instance type, and you switch to standard.large instance, you will be charged $60 ($20/user, x 3). If you switch the portal back to standard.regular type before the end of the month, you will still be charged $60. If only 2 of your users use the portal while it was on standard.large instances, you will be charged $47 ($20 for each user on standard.large, and $7 for each user on standard.regular). Assuming your portal remains on standard.regular instances with the same 3 users, you will be charged $21 ($7/user x 3) the next month.
