Global Challenges, Startup Solutions at StartupFest 2017

StartupFest Europe sponsored by AWS

AWS is proud to once again be sponsoring StartupFest Europe, which will take place September 25-28 in the Netherlands. Presented by the national Dutch startup program StartupDelta2020, this nationwide week of events is designed to help entrepreneurs share transformational ideas and learn about the innovation happening within the European startup eco-system.

With the sixth largest economy in Europe, the Netherlands has long been a startup nation. Dutch startup pioneers include well-known companies like, TomTom and more recently, WeTransfer. Popular incubators like Startupbootcamp and Rockstart also play an important role in helping startups attract funding.

Given special envoy HRH Prince Constantijn’s commitment to boosting the country’s entrepreneurial climate, the Dutch government’s pro-innovation business outlook has allowed StartupDelta to increase support for startups. Recently-introduced legislation offers favorable business terms for tech entrepreneurs and investors—including income tax exemptions for startup founders and a bespoke Dutch Startup Visa program—to attract international talent, who’ve been flocking to startup-friendly coworking spaces like B.Amsterdam in the heart of the city.

StartupFest launched in 2016 as an outlet for startups, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate investors from across Europe to discuss industry challenges, facilitate deal-making and build community interaction via meetups and networking events. This year’s theme of “Global Challenges, Startup Solutions” promises to further bring together some of the brightest minds within European entrepreneurship. From inspirational talks by renowned international speakers to technical deep dives, and industry-specific events, the week’s programming centers around the headline event CapitalFest, which will feature a keynote by CTO Werner Vogels on Wednesday September 27. Prior to this, AWS, as the host of the Future of High Tech Program’s AI Hackathon, will challenge developers to reshape the future of the industry with AI, robotics and the use of unmanned systems.

Other highlights from the program include:

  • A dedicated program of industry-specific events for Energy & Mobility, Blockchain, Fintech & Security, and Digital Health & MedTech
  • The opening of the Startup Village at Amsterdam Science Park, connecting six university incubator programs with the help of Amsterdam Venture Studios
  • Finalists of the BMW Startup Challenge will compete in the final stage, with the winners award presentation taking place during the BMW Startup Symposium
  • The Executive Edge event is where Europe’s leading CEOs and board members will discuss digital DNA and transformation with startups, scale-ups and investors
  • The Capital Pitch Sessions will give startups an opportunity to meet international investors looking for the most promising Fintech and Security ventures
