Amazon AppStream 2.0 now supports Fleet Auto Scaling to help you optimize your streaming costs.

Amazon AppStream 2.0 now allows you to set scaling policies to increase or decrease the size of your fleet automatically. With scaling policies, you can ensure that your fleet has enough capacity to stream applications to your end users, and reduce your costs by automatically terminating instances that are no longer in use.

Each running instance in a fleet can be used by only one user at a time, which means the size of your fleet determines the number of concurrent users that can access their applications. You can now control the size of your fleet based on utilization criteria. You can set policies to resize your fleet based on capacity utilization, the number of available instances, or when a user is waiting for a streaming session. 

For each policy you create, you can also specify how many instances to add or remove. Each new fleet that you create in the AppStream 2.0 console is configured with default scale out and scale in policies, which you can customize. If you have existing fleets, you can create new policies. Fleet Auto Scaling policies can be configured using the Fleets tab in the AppStream 2.0 console AppStream 2.0 console, or using the AWS SDK. Scaling polices for AppStream 2.0 are available today in all AWS regions where the service is available. There are no charges for adding scaling policies to AppStream 2.0 fleets. However, each CloudWatch alarm that you create and use to trigger scaling policies for your AppStream 2.0 fleets may incur additional CloudWatch charges.
