Partner Success Story – Morris & Opazo

Consulting company Morris & Opazo is based in Chile and provides a variety of IT solutions to businesses across Latin America. It specializes in data and analytics, data lakes, migration, machine learning, and data warehouse solutions.

After founding Morris & Opazo in 2005, company leaders like Marcelo Rybertt, Country Manager and Chief Technology Officer, spent time “learning how the cloud works and how the services work” and saw an opportunity to grow by leveraging the breadth and depth of services and features provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). With the largest and most dynamic community, AWS provides Morris & Opazo a real network effect and unmatched experience, maturity, security, and performance.

“AWS has become our core, the engine that keeps the company growing. It increases our visibility and gives us a competitive edge.”

Building Expertise and Earning a Big Data Competency

Morris & Opazo became an AWS Service Delivery Partner to help its engineers learn a variety of AWS technologies. The company took advantage of this program to gain several specialized skills in AWS services, and to leverage program benefits offering elite technical enablement and upskilling at no cost. Today, Morris & Opazo has six validations in the AWS Service Delivery Program: Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for Microsoft Windows Server, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon Redshift, AWS Lambda, and Amazon DynamoDB. The AWS Service Delivery Program enabled Morris & Opazo to not only build upon its expertise, but demonstrate it to customers.

With three data and analytics AWS Service Delivery designations (Amazon DynamoDB, Kinesis, and Redshift), Morris & Opazo had a strong use-case specialization to offer customers. Next, its validated AWS service expertise expedited its journey to becoming a Latin America Partner and achieving the AWS Data and Analytics Competency. “Being an AWS partner with the Data and Analytics Competency means we have the knowledge, capacity, and tools to help our clients get the most out of their big data workloads on AWS,” says Rybertt.

Morris & Opazo recently opened a new area called Morris Labs, building relationships with a growing network of universities in LatAm and Europe. The company is fully committed to introducing new professionals fresh out of college into the ecosystem of services and technologies from AWS and providing them with the knowledge and expertise to tackle real-world challenges, thus helping the company and AWS grow by constantly injecting new certified professionals into the environment.

Leveraging Its AWS Partnership to Accelerate Growth

Morris & Opazo’s AWS partnership also helped the company build its marketing capabilities and exposed it to a new client base, which had a remarkable impact on its business. “AWS has been the cornerstone of our growth,” says Rybertt. “Becoming an AWS Partner made an impact like no other endeavor we have undertaken in the past. AWS has become our core, the engine that keeps the company growing. It increases our visibility and gives us a competitive edge.”

Morris & Opazo experienced 90 percent growth in 2020 over 2019. The company also added a permanent office in Peru and is opening an office in Colombia. “Through AWS, we get access to knowledge, new technologies, and resources we can include in our solutions,” says Rybertt. “Using AWS also helps us reach a wider customer base and build valuable relationships with them.”

Going forward, Morris & Opazo hopes to become an even more engaged AWS Partner. “One thing that’s worked well for us is our focus on knowledge,” adds Rybertt. “The number of certifications we achieved helped us move from a registered partner to an advanced partner very quickly.”

“Using AWS also helps us reach a wider customer base and build valuable relationships with them.”
