Arq is online backup for the Mac:

  • Automatically back up your important files to Amazon's S3 (Simple Storage Service).
  • Never again worry about remembering to plug in an external drive for backups.
  • Maintain 100% privacy (AES-256 encryption) and control of your data.
  • Control exactly what gets backed up, with no limits.
  • Drag-and-drop to restore files immediately and correctly, with all the Mac metadata and resource forks.
  • Arq throttles its network usage so it doesn't get in your way.
  • Arq "de-duplicates" your files, never backing up the same file twice.
  • Arq thins your backups as they get older to save space, just like Time Machine.
  • Give Arq a storage budget and Arq drops the oldest backups to stay within it.
  • Arq never modifies your files or folders.

Excellent Mac Solution for S3
I've been using Arq for ~4 months now, and have been very pleased with its functionality, as well as the responsiveness of its creator, Stefan, when I've had a handful of questions or feature inquiries. I occasionally use Time Machine to make a local backup of my entire drive, which will allow for an expeditious recovery. However, given that I am highly-mobile with my MBP, Arq allows me to backup my critical files wherever I happen to be and at very frequent intervals, doing so automatically in the background. In a few instances, it has permitted me to easily double-back when the need arose. I highly-recommend this app.
