Mature monitoring solution
I am using Hyperic HQ Open Source on bare metal for a while now. This AMI comes with Hyperic HQ Enterprise for free and you can manage/monitore up to 4 machines. Compared to the Open Source release there are many interesting features available, for example Base Line or Unidirectional Communication for your Agents. Of course you benefit from standard features like Auto-Discovery of Servers and Services. The AMI is based on Fedora release 8 and HQ 4.0.1 is using MySQL version 5.x as database backend, instead of a bundled PostgreSQL database. The performance might be slightly better and many people have MySQL knowlegde The virtual machine is very well prepared. I strongly recommend you to read the 'Running HQ in the Cloud' Guide (available on http://www.hyperic.com/aws ) before you start. As server type m1.small is absolutely sufficient. From my point of view the chapter 'Deploy Agents to Machine Instances to be Managed' is too short, but the documentation about installing and the setup of HQ Agents on the Hyperic website is also valid on AWS and covers this topic. If you run your first production servers in the cloud, consider to run this AMI as well !

Fantastic - love to see the cloud used like this
We're going to see more and more of this - enterprise class applications running on AWS! Hyperic already has the best solutions in their space, but this really takes the cake.
