AWS Certification exams now available virtually for added convenience and flexibility

Editor’s Note 3 February 2021: The latest information on AWS Certification testing options is available on our website. Looking for tips for your online proctored exam? Check out our post “5 tips for a successful online-proctored AWS Certification exam.”

AWS Certifications help you build your credibility and confidence by validating your cloud expertise with an industry-recognized credential. For additional convenience and flexibility, you can now take all AWS Certification exams from the comfort of your home or any private space with online proctoring. All you need is a reliable internet connection, a webcam, and a quiet, private place to test.

“We are excited to offer you the option to validate your AWS Cloud skills from the convenience of your home or location of your choice,” says Diana Godwin, senior manager, AWS Certification. “Whether you’re interested in basic cloud fluency or specialty topics like machine learning or database, this added flexibility gives our customers the ability to turn any private place into a proctored testing environment.”

When you take an AWS Certification exam in a testing center, on-site staff assist with check-in, exam access on testing center computers, and questions. With online exam proctoring, you will take the same exam with the same allotted time to complete that you would in a testing center, but on your own computer. You will communicate with a proctor who will remotely monitor your exam.

We always recommend scheduling exams ahead of time to ensure an appointment time that works well for your needs. Online proctors are available seven days a week with around-the-clock appointment options. However, in periods of high demand, your preferred appointment day and time may not be available right away.

If you’re wondering whether online proctoring is a good choice for your next exam, here are answers to some common questions we hear from candidates:

Who can use online proctoring?
To take an exam with online proctoring, you must be able to communicate with an English-speaking proctor who will welcome you and monitor your testing environment. You can take the exam in English, Japanese, Korean, or Simplified Chinese, but communication with the proctor will be in English. Online proctoring is not available for candidates in mainland China, Japan, Slovenia, or South Korea. Otherwise, the option is available across the world where testing is available.

How can I be sure my computer and workspace is set up for online proctoring?
Online proctored exams have specific system requirements and policies you should be aware of before deciding on this option. Run the system test on the same computer and network and in the same location you plan to use for the exam as a first step when considering online proctoring. Your workspace will need to be a private, quiet place where you won’t be interrupted.

Can I take a break during an online proctored exam?
During your online proctored exam, you won’t be able to get up from your computer and leave the webcam view. If you anticipate needing to leave the webcam view for any reason during your exam, we suggest you schedule the exam in a testing center.

How do I schedule my exam?
You can schedule your exam from your AWS Certification Account. Online proctoring is only available for AWS Certification exams when scheduling with our testing vendor, Pearson VUE. Select to schedule with Pearson VUE and then chose the “At my home or office” option. Due to high demand, your first choice for a testing time might not be available. We encourage you to schedule ahead of time, and, if your desired appointment time isn’t available, to check again in a few days as availability may change.

More information on our AWS Certifications is available on our website and in our FAQs. You can learn more about online proctoring on Pearson VUE’s website.
