Mit “serverless” meinen wir, dass keine explizite Infrastruktur erforderlich ist – also ganz ohne Server und ohne Deployments. Diesen raffinierten Ansatz können Sie mit wenig Aufwand und nur mit der Hilfe von verwalteten Cloud-Services und eines Laptops selbst umsetzen.

Die Aufzeichnungen vom Serverless Web Day geben Ihnen einen Überblick über Amazon API Gateway, ein Service, der es Ihnen ermöglicht, APIs nur mit wenigen Klicks in der AWS Management Konsole zu erstellen, sowie AWS Lambda, ein Service, der Code und Funktionen ausführt, ohne dazu einen virtuellen Server oder einen Container zu verwenden. Die Webinare widmen sich auch dem Thema Cloud Security und was Sie beachten müssen, wenn Sie Ihre Serverless-Architekturen bauen. Zwei Kunden-Fallstudien erläutern interessante Anwendungsbeispiele.

By “serverless”, we mean no explicit infrastructure required, as in: no servers to manage, no deployments. Learn how to use nothing but managed cloud services and a laptop to build this magic. This web day will cover Amazon API Gateway, a service that allows you to create APIs at any scale with just a few clicks in the AWS Management Console, plus AWS Lambda, which lets you run code without having to manage any server instances, and will address security processes you need to consider when building your serverless architectures.

Serverless architectures do mean additional shift in the shared responsibility model. The need of virtual instances or application services is well understood. This session will expand the scope of the security discussion where services are used without having Servers being responsible of the consumer. We will cover the core services for those architectures and explain the controls on the customer side as well as the security boundaries of the services themselves.

Security Boundaries and Functions of Services for Serverless Architectures on AWS

AWS’ serverless architecture components such as Amazon S3, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, Amazon CloudWatch Logs, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Kinesis and AWS Lambda can be tightly constrained in their operation, however it is still possible to use many of them to propagate payloads which may be used to exploit vulnerabilities in some consuming endpoints or user-generated code. This session explores mechanisms for enhancing the default security of these services, from applying permissions-tightening in IAM to integrating tools and techniques for inline and out-of-band payload analysis which are more typically applied to traditional server-based architectures.

Leveraging the Security of AWS's Own APIs for Your App

Dubsmash is one of the fastest growing mobile video communication apps. For a communication platform it is important to inform users immediately about new friends on the platform or new Dubs in their DubTalk groups. At the same time, we keep our users up to date on new content and features within the app. Engagement is majorly triggered using push notifications to specific user segments. A third use-case for us are the silent push notifications which update icon badges or check for updated content that is available to the user. With these three use cases, we send out hundreds of millions of pushes every month to our global user base.

Building a software system that can handle those in near real time and that can grow with us, is very challenging. Using AWS Lambda, SQS and SNS, our engineering team has proven the feasibility of such a serverless solution.
