Details: Amazon CloudFront engineers and Slack discuss how you can securely accelerate your applications and APIs. There are two sessions, one of which featured Alex Graham, Sr. Engineer at Slack.
- 6:00-7:00 PM Secured API Acceleration with Engineers from CloudFront and Slack - A vast number of customers run their web applications on AWS and often times build secured applications relying only on services available in AWS regions. Using Amazon CloudFront, you can provide that same level of security with additional performance improvements. In this session, we talk about how customers running their websites or APIs on AWS can improve security while increasing performance of their applications by using Amazon CloudFront’s globally distributed edge locations. We talk about architectural patterns such as TLS termination at the edge, inherent DDoS Protection, and AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF). Slack, makers of cloud-based team collaboration software, discuss how they are using ELB and CloudFront to accelerate their APIs.

- 7:00-7:30 PM Automating Content Protection at the Edge - As attackers become more and more sophisticated, web application developers need to keep constantly updating their security configurations to stay ahead of potential attacks. Static firewall rules are no longer good enough. Developers need a way to deploy “automated security” that can learn from the application behavior, and identify bad traffic patterns to detect bad bots, or bad actors on the internet. For this 2nd topic, we showcase some real-world use cases where you can use Amazon CloudFront logs, AWS WAF, and AWS Lambda to identify bad actors and block them. We also show tutorials and code samples that can help you analyze traffic patterns, and deploy new WAF rules on-the-fly.
