NHN Techorus joined the AWS Solution Provider Program and became the first AWS Partner worldwide to resell Amazon GameLift, helping drive an annual revenue growth of 150 percent. The global information technology service management company sought to use AWS to better serve its customers in Japan’s fast-growing gaming industry. As an Authorized Solution Provider in the AWS Solution Provider Program, NHN Techorus can support its customers in game development and can deploy services using 50 percent fewer developer hours. After joining the AWS Solution Provider Program, the company saw its gaming segment revenue grow by more than 90 percent in six months.

NHN Techorus has helped companies create mobile gaming infrastructure since its founding in 2007 and saw an opportunity to further support its customers in Japan’s fast-growing gaming industry. The information technology service management company knew it could use Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the AWS Solution Provider Program to help gaming companies reach new levels of success.
AWS Partner NHN Techorus had seven years of experience working alongside AWS and recognized an opportunity for continued growth. So in 2019, the company joined the AWS Solution Provider Program, which is designed for systems integrators, managed service providers, value-added resellers, and public sector partners who want to resell AWS services. Then in 2020, as an Authorized Solution Provider, NHN Techorus became the first AWS Partner worldwide to resell the dedicated game server hosting solution Amazon GameLift, which deploys, operates, and scales cloud servers for multiplayer games. Taking these steps helped NHN Techorus drive a financial breakthrough, growing its annual company-wide revenue 150 percent.
Strengthening Expertise on AWS
NHN Techorus is a subsidiary of NHN Group, which develops solutions for games, comics, internet media, and information technology around the world. NHN Techorus, which is an AWS Managed Service Provider, plays a central role in NHN Group’s managed service provider business, which comprehensively manages customer systems in data centers and the cloud. About ten percent of NHN Techorus’s customer base is in the gaming industry, which makes up 30 percent of its revenue. The company helps organizations migrate from data center environments to AWS and provides solutions and support for a digital-native business sector that includes mobile gaming. NHN Techorus technicians have worked alongside AWS since 2012, when they deployed high-speed file transfer software in the AWS US East (N. Virginia) Region to deliver software as a service to customers. “I remember being impressed by the fact that our initial investment costs were significantly reduced,” says Akiteru Shirakura, CEO of NHN Techorus.
The company recognized an opportunity to grow financially by acquiring expertise in the use of AWS services and developing best practices for its customers. In the gaming industry, NHN Techorus offers several services, such as configuration design, backend functionality, and security. As a member of the AWS Well-Architected Partner Program, the company builds high quality solutions, implements best practices, checks the state of workloads, and makes improvements according to its business and customer needs. NHN Techorus uses this expertise to offer operational management design based on the AWS Well-Architected Framework, which helps cloud architects build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure for their applications and workloads.
NHN Techorus became an AWS Partner in 2016 and is now a member of six AWS Partner Programs, having earned seven AWS Certifications to educate its engineers and validate its technical skills and cloud expertise. Using Amazon GameLift to Grow Its Business
As an Authorized Solution Provider in the AWS Solution Provider Program, NHN Techorus can resell AWS services and manage, service, support, and bill AWS accounts for customers. By becoming a member of the AWS Solution Provider Program, NHN Techorus was able to expand its engagement within the AWS Partner Network and support its gaming industry customers comprehensively.
For example, NHN Techorus used Amazon GameLift to restructure the architecture of one of its subsidiaries’ mobile games, A.I.M.$. The company wanted the game to be able to scale with ease and adjust to large numbers of simultaneous users with minimal latency. In two days, NHN Techorus built and developed an optimal configuration for A.I.M.$. The development project served as a proof of concept for how NHN Techorus could address issues that its customers face when developing multiplayer games, such as scaling to the number of players involved, minimizing latency, and protecting users from cyberattacks and other security risks. Amazon GameLift was new to the market, so NHN Techorus developed its own support system for its customers that use the service. Because the company has a track record of optimizing large-scale gaming systems on AWS, its game development customers don’t have to worry about managing infrastructure and can instead focus on improving the quality of their games and the player experience.

Since joining the AWS Solution Provider Program in 2019, NHN Techorus has experienced annual company-wide revenue growth of more than 150 percent and has seen revenue for the gaming segment of its company grow by more than 90 percent in six months. Helping Customers Digitally Transform on AWS
NHN Techorus plans to continue to enhance its customer service, guiding its customers toward migration to the cloud and digital transformation. It will continue to expand its packaged services, reselling AWS services, and providing program support. “I think working alongside AWS is a big advantage,” says Shirakura. “We’ve been able to improve through AWS Certifications and do business in large and growing markets, working toward common goals with customers, building frameworks, and practicing good business logic.
