connect to an RDS MySQL DB instance
using MySQL Workbench

How do I connect to my Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) DB instance that's running MySQL by using MySQL Workbench?

The following resolution applies to MySQL Workbench that's running on an instance in the same VPC as the Amazon RDS instance or when the Amazon RDS instance is publicly accessible. If MySQL Workbench is running from outside the VPC and the Amazon RDS instance isn't publicly accessible, this resolution applies only when AWS Direct Connect or AWS VPN connections are used and DNS is configured. For more information, see Resolving DNS Queries Between VPCs and Your Network.

Before you begin, be sure that the security group associated with your DB instance allows traffic to and from the device that you use to connect to it. For more information, see Amazon RDS Security Groups.

After you download and install MySQL Workbench, specify the host name and port of your DB instance.

To find the endpoint of the DB instance, open the Amazon RDS console, choose Instances, and then select the instance. In the Configuration Details view, an endpoint similar to the following is listed:
