Dear AWS Developers,

Last month we announced that Amazon EC2 with Windows was coming, and now we are happy to say, it's here. Amazon EC2 had a busy month and entered general availability with a service level agreement (SLA), launched Windows availability, and announced some exciting upcoming features. Not to be outdone, Amazon S3 released a new tiered pricing structure that lowers the per GB/month price as your storage volume increases.

We are also excited to share the latest news in the AWS Start-Up Challenge. We were impressed with the talented teams who submitted their innovative business plans and ideas and we have selected seven finalists. Read more below. Thanks to everyone who entered.

News & Announcements

To keep you up-to-date, here are the latest news items and announcements from AWS.

Now Available: Amazon EC2 Running Windows Server
You can now employ Amazon EC2 running Windows Server or SQL Server with all of the performance, reliability, and scalability benefits of Amazon EC2. AWS customers have commonly requested Amazon EC2 running Windows Server and now Amazon EC2 will provide an ideal environment for deploying ASP.NET web sites, high performance computing clusters, media transcoding solutions, and many other Windows-based applications. Like all services offered by AWS, Amazon EC2 running Windows Server or SQL Server offers a low-cost, pay-as-you-go model with no long-term commitments and no minimum fees.

Amazon EC2 Enters GA, Adds an SLA, and Announces Upcoming Features
After two years in beta, Amazon EC2 has entered General Availability (GA) and announced an SLA. The service level commitment is 99.95% availability within a Region and if availability falls below this level, customers are eligible to receive service credits. We have also announced several upcoming features that will make managing cloud-based applications on Amazon EC2 even easier. These features, scheduled for release in 2009, include Load Balancing, Auto-Scaling, Monitoring, and Management Consoles. Learn more about Amazon EC2 SLA and these new features.

Amazon S3 Tiered Pricing
Effective November 1st, Amazon S3 has lowered prices for storage by introducing tiered pricing, with prices as low as $0.12 per GB per month. This new pricing structure means that your costs will continue to decrease over time as your storage increases.
