Amazon RDS Supports Cross-Region Copying of TDE Encrypted Snapshots

Posted on: Jun 13, 2017

Starting today, you can copy Amazon RDS Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) encrypted database snapshots across AWS Regions. This includes databases encrypted with Oracle Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Microsoft SQL Server TDE, and snapshots created from SQL Server Multi-AZ instances.

Previously, Amazon RDS supported copying unencrypted DB snapshots and snapshots encrypted via AWS KMS encryption keys across multiple regions and accounts.

Copying of TDE encrypted snapshots works across AWS commercial regions (non-governmental regions). For more details on copying a database snapshot across regions, please refer to Copying a DB Snapshot in the Amazon RDS documentation.

Amazon RDS for Oracle and Amazon RDS for SQL Server make it easy to set up, operate, and scale database deployments in the cloud. See Amazon RDS Pricing for regional availability.
