Amazon Inspector Adds Ability to Run Security Assessments on Amazon EC2 Instances Without Adding Tags

Posted on: May 24, 2018

With this launch, Amazon Inspector is making it easier to automatically assess your applications for vulnerabilities or deviations from best practices. Inspector has added the ability to run security assessments on your Amazon EC2 instances without having to add tags to your instances. When you create assessment targets, you can now choose an option to include all EC2 instances in your account within the AWS region.

Previously, to set up a security assessment, you had to add a tag to the instances you wanted to assess, and then enter the tag into an assessment target. Now, you can simply choose the option to include all instances while creating the assessment target. This launch does not change the current maximum of 500 instances included in a single assessment. You can still continue to use tags to target any subset of your instances, or to manage fleets larger than 500 instances.

Amazon Inspector is available in the following ten regions: US East (Northern Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Northern California), US West (Oregon), EU (Frankfurt), EU (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Sydney), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
