I use Amazon Glacier to store archival data, and I want to check the contents of my Amazon Glacier vaults. How do I do that?

You can use the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) to retrieve jobs against your Amazon Glacier vaults, check the status of jobs, and download output generated by jobs.

First, configure the AWS CLI. After the AWS CLI has been configured, you can use one or more of the following commands:

  • To list the vaults on your account, use the list-vaults AWS CLI command.
  • To request an inventory of a specific vault, use the initiate-job AWS CLI command with the inventory-retrieval Type. The inventory parameters are specified inline using JSON.
  • To view the status of jobs running against a specified vault, use the list-jobs AWS CLI command. A StatusCode of "InProgress" indicates a job is running. A StatusCode of "Succeeded" indicates the job was successful.
  • To save the job output to a file after a job finishes and a vault inventory is complete, use the get-job-output AWS CLI command.

For a list of available commands, see the AWS CLI Command Reference for Amazon Glacier.
