I added some Amazon Web Services (AWS) credits to my account. Can I use them to pay bills from a previous month?

Active credits on your account are applied to applicable usage throughout the billing cycle, reducing your overall bill. However, once an AWS bill is finalized at the end of a billing cycle, it can’t be updated; this includes applying additional credits to your usage.

AWS credits are not considered a form of payment. Outstanding invoices on your account can only be settled with the payment method associated with your account. If you need to update your payment method in order to settle outstanding invoices, see How do I add a new payment method to my AWS account?

If you have questions about specific credits on your account, create a case with AWS Support.
