ScaleOut StateServer is an in-memory data grid, sometimes called a distributed cache. It runs as a distributed software service on a set of dedicated virtual servers to store data objects in memory and make them globally accessible to networked web or application servers. Stored objects can be accessed from any client connected to the in-memory data grid, and the grid enables simultaneous access by different clients to data objects stored on different grid servers. Once provisioned, ScaleOut StateServer automatically balances the amount of storage used by each server in the grid to scale throughput and maintain fast response times. As new servers running ScaleOut StateServer are provisioned, they automatically expand storage capacity and performance. High availability is built into every feature of ScaleOut StateServer making it the perfect choice for mission-critical applications. A comprehensive set of Java, C/C++, .NET, and REST APIs enable applications to directly access the data grid and perform a wide variety of operations, such as querying objects by their properties and handling asynchronous events.
