Product Overview

Presto is an open source federated, distributed SQL query engine used for the Open Data Lakehouse. It enables querying data where it lives. This Presto Sandbox comes bundled with Hive Metastore backed by postgreSQL and additional catalogs like TPC-DS.
Also note that the easiest way to run Presto in AWS instead of downloading this AMI, is to use the Ahana Cloud Community Edition, a free forever managed service for Presto on AWS: https://ahana.io/get-started/ It includes everything you need to get started with an Open Data Lakehouse in AWS, including a managed service for Presto, a managed Hive metadata catalog, pre-configured data sources including S3, and basic BI support with built-in Apache Superset.

With this Presto Sandbox AMI, you can easily get started with Presto to query data wherever your data resides. This sandbox comes with the presto-cli as well as a Hive Metastore backed by PostgreSQL bundled in. In addition, the following catalogs are bundled in to try, test, and prototype Presto:

JMX: useful for monitoring and debugging Presto
Memory: to create in memory tables that are discarded when when Presto restarts
TPC-DS: provides a set of schemas to support the TPC Benchmark DS
TPC-H: provides a set of schemas to support the TPC Benchmark H
