Product Overview

Docker is an open platform for developing, delivering, and operating applications. Docker is designed to release your applications faster. With Docker, you can separate your application from your infrastructure and treat the infrastructure like a managed application. Docker helps you deploy your code faster, test faster, deploy applications faster, and reduce the time between writing code and running code. Docker does this with a lightweight container virtualization framework, using processes and utilities to help manage and deploy your applications.

At its core, Docker allows you to run almost any application, safely isolated in a container. Safe isolation allows you to run many containers on the same host simultaneously. The lightweight nature of the container, which runs without the extra load of the hypervisor, allows you to get more out of your hardware.

You can use Docker for:

  • Packaging your application (and also used components) into docker containers.
  • Distributing and delivering these containers to your teams for development and testing.
  • Uploading these containers to your productions both in data centers and in the clouds.
