Usage instructions
First download the appropriate client for your platform here: https://github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks/wiki/Ports-and-Clients
For the connection details, use your instances Public IPv4 address as the server address, the port 8488 as the connection port, and the instance ID as the password for authenticating to ShadowSocks2. The encryption is chacha20-ietf-poly1305. The security rule for port 8488 should be restricted to approved users via a bastion, VPN or via the CIDR for your office network.
In order to verify the ShadowSocks2 proxy server is running properly you can SSH into the server and run the following two commands.
First of all check whether there is an open port, the p argument only works if the concerning process is yours or you are root. By default the proxy is configured on <private_ip>:8488:
$ netstat -tlnp
This should give you an output like:
tcp 0 0 172.31.90.212:8488 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
You can verify the health of the Shadowsocks2 proxy service by running the following command:
$ service hailbytes-shadowsocks status
You should see a service status report like the following when the SOCKS 5 proxy service has started successfully.
- hailbytes-shadowsocks.service - Shadowsocks SOCKS5 Proxy Service Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/shadowsocks.service enabled vendor preset: enabled) Active: active (running) since Sun 2022-07-17 23:40:04 UTC 1min 0s ago
