    CockroachDB is a distributed SQL database built on a transactional and strongly-consistent key-value store. It scales horizontally; survives disk, machine, rack, and even datacenter failures with minimal latency disruption and no manual intervention; supports strongly-consistent ACID transactions; and provides a familiar SQL API for structuring, manipulating, and querying data.

    This Linux image provided is tailored for enterprise-level performance on AWS, containing an installation ofCockroachDB, the necessary packages to operate an SSH Server and permit user logins. The most recent security updates from the team are incorporated. Root login is deactivated, with only the default user granted access via SSH public key authentication.

    Connecting to the VM:

    To connect to your instance, you will need to use SSH over port 22. The default username for connecting is ec2-user. For further information about the standard AWS method of connecting to an instance, see information described here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/AccessingInstances.html 

    Using CockroachDB

    CockroachDB is installed on this instance. To configure and run CockroachDB, create a configuration file (e.g., cockroachdb_config.yaml) and set your desired options. Start a single-node cluster using the custom configuration with the command cockroach start-single-node --insecure --listen-addr=localhost:26257 --http-addr=localhost:8080 --background --config-file=/path/to/cockroachdb_config.yaml. Access the database using the built-in SQL shell with the command cockroach sql --insecure. To check the installed CockroachDB version, run cockroach version.
