Free + Free = Fee
Using a free software package on a AWS free tier incurs cost, albeit not much. A bit vexing for a learning environment but I suppose its the price one pays for free. just my two cents but; Wouldn't Amazon benefit from having this service being run in their environments by encouraging developers to develop the most economical solutions?

Not so good
Ossim is a great product.
Anyhow when I tried it in AWS it is not that great.
It constantly has errors with the database, it is slow (anyhow it has plenty of resources) and it is not working that nice.
Another problem I've seen is that it only has the option to mount on very large instances which is not great for making labs or just monitoring some small servers (It is expensive to have online).
OSSIM is great, anyhow it is better to install on your hardware (or virtual appliance) and not on AWS (at least yet).
Hope they can improve compatibility (speed, etc.) and other issues.
