broken amazon ssh public login

For some unknown reason Amazon public key login stopped working on this machine. Tried multiple instance types in multiple availability zones. Saw some console messages about Selinux re-labeling, perhaps that's related. The only thing that would work was password authentication (which obviously wasn't going to work).

No complains. works out of the box. Kudos to team for putting great efforts behind this. Baked the golden AMI using this AMI.

Pro: It's a clean, basic CentOS image.

Con: It uses a marketplace code for root volume so you cannot mount it to another instance which prevents boot and login recovery.

Unreliable

I've built up a CentOS 6.4 VPC system, installed Postgres 8.4 packages, opened iptables ports. Just worked for a couple of hours testing the installed packages.
Back again the next day, it didn't booted up anymore.
Attempt to force a reboot from the EC2 management console a couple of time, still hanging.
Ask for assistance but have not received any answer yet.

I think Il'll terminate and look further for another service.

CentOS - The God of OS's!

CentOS is by far the best Linux distro for data centers.

I am a huge fan of OpenSUSE, but, to be fair to SUSE and their licensing model, we shouldn't use OpenSUSE for enterprise production, we should buy SUSE Enterprise Server.

That's why we love CentOS. I don't know where those guys get their money, but they produce one SOLID product. I am a contributor.

It's the easiest to setup and get running, in either Runlevel 3 or Runlevel 5, whatever you like, you can have your VNC server up in seconds. And it works without hassle.

I have built my CentOS on an AWS instance for doing CI work with Bamboo+Jira OnDemand developing Android apps. CentOS rocks and the Bamboo agent configuration went rather smoothly. I tried Ubuntu guys...it was a hassle and I abandoned it in 15 minutes.

By the way, AWS rocks! Never used it before last week, but it's way cool.

Definitely go the CentOS route. You will NOT be sorry.

I have several flavors of CentOS with a competitive cloud provider serving CMS and static sites. I set up a test server using CentOS 6.4 i386. It was simple to login to the EC2 virtual server via AWS SSH keypair using my SSH client in OSX. Upgrading the OS was simple with YUM. Installing virtualmin was a snap. SFTP content, setup DNS with Route 53 and a website was live in minutes. Just remember to open port 22 in your EC2 control panel so you can SSH in.
