Not Ready

To much configuration; web interface is just glorified RDP, easy to use, but no point if its not ready. Would try later if OS is complete.

This is a scam

The instance does not provide what its description says.
Octane Render Cloud Edition is still vaporware.

All this instance does is demo the remote connection via a web browser. Everything else you want to do with it you'll have to configure yourself.

This AMI is not user ready.

This image is far from being ready. Had to install VStudio, update the Cuda API and driver, install 3DS max, deploy the Octane plug-in, configure 3DS max use octane, fix the windows registry so that Octane could see the GPU.

A whole day is lost when this could have been pre-configured in the AWS AMI. I am not too impressed considering that AWS is charging the AMI during that time and sells it as Octane Workstation ready.

Worked fine

Was fairly easy to get setup. I loved being able to connect to the desktop environment through the OTOY client API via URL (IP+GUID). I installed Unreal Engine 4 on the machine and used it for a few days. While this is free through OTOY it cost me in AWS though Data Transfer and EC2 resources because of the GPU Instance you must use.

Octane cloud didn't work for me

I tried this application streaming to my computer on RDP and on Chrome. The feed to my computer was slow, very blotchy, and filled with artifacts. I tried it wired and wireless. No difference. My internet connection (cable for business) is quite fast, so I think it is a program issue. It is unusable for me because of this issue.

Has potential

Seems to have good potential. I only used Revit for a little while. Did not try Inventor or 3DS Max. Getting up an running with the instance took looking up info on several web pages so I definitely think instructions could be clarified and consolidated a bit.

It's the future

I've been using Autodesk Inventor for 10 years now. On my home machine, when working on robot assemblies that consist of hundreds of parts, I experience lag as I rotate and place constraints. However, with the cloud workstation I found it to be extremely responsive when assembling. I would have never guessed that having cloud rendering handle this process to be the solution, but after using this I'm convinced it's the future. As I work on engineering projects in college, I can't help but think how great it would be if our college offered this as a way for us CAD and work on our designs from anywhere. The fact that this is running in the web browser is astonishing. I was able to run it at +45fps on a 50d/10u internet connection at home on an old Macbook Pro and an newer i7 HP laptop without any issues. Well worth it.

not ready for primetime

I was able to view the desktop and full screen 3D games from OTOYs browser client. At 1-5 fps and less than 600p resolution with extreme compression artifacts occupying the majority of the screen.

Too complicated.

It is going to be Great , I am sure! as soon as I figure How to use it , later this century.
Make simple for people that don't code, or don't have webmaster skills,
it is very confusing , I was able to understand 99% of all documentation I read, for other tools,
and I do have tons of software, but I am the typical end user, more CG artist than technician.
I think sometimes developers, forget that ,most end users don't have their skills.
I know a simpler version is coming and I am looking forward to use it , but right now can't say anything , about the service, because shameful enough,I didn't even figured How to use it.
Click of a button on the Max
2014 plugin interface, or even alembic export will do it for me.
Best Wishes.
