Couldn't get server to start at all. Why put something out without testing it? I would try to use something else.

The AMI description tells you how to login using a shared key or via ssh (with directions on how to find the auto-generated root password). Both worked fine for me. Once logged in, I followed the prompts to set db and user passwords. When that was done, Canvas was running just fine. Canvas is not the easiest LMS to install (I've also installed Blackboard and a few others), so this is a great option.
