Lots of challenges installing this product.

I encountered numerous challenges with this product. Initial launch requires you to register an Activation Code. I attempted four times and each time, it ran into errors such as "Error (500) Activation Failed" etc. I also spent over 8 hours with four different support specialists, all of whom were unable to figure out the problem after many WebEx sessions. Support staff is helpful, but unable to solve the problem. In some instances, they were asking questions that they should have answers to, such as the Linux version of this BYOL image etc. They also punted the problem to AWS Support, but AWS Support sent back the product to Tenable.

Finally, the fifth support person figured out that the version of the Nessus scanner that is bundled with BYOL is version 6.1, but the Activation Code and the Plug-in Server component only work with version 6.4.2 of the software. After upgrading the AMI's Nessus install to 6.4.2, it worked, but the upgrade was not simple. Many commands to cleanup and reset stuff and many challenges in testing and trying out many possible scenarios.

I guess, the earlier reviews did not hit any of the problems because the scanner, their plug-in server and the activation code all matched, but since then, the image is lagging behind, but the rest of their components have advanced.

This is the best way to get your scans done without saturating your own network connection ... I was up and running in minutes and kicking off scans. The scans run fast, and the results are good. I was tired of watching my 50mb internet connection come to a crawl when doing a large scan. Doesn't seem to be a problem for AWS.
