Postgres Plus Cloud Database Advanced [PV]
EnterpriseDB Corporation | 9.4.1.3Linux/Unix, Amazon Linux latest - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Reduce DB Cost without upfront investment
This is a great service!
It's perfect for those -->
- Who are looking for an alternative for Costly DBMS e.g. Oracle
- Who are looking for a supported Postgres Version in cloud
- Who want to get more benefits of Postgres in cloud
- Who want to use auto-scaling and auto-healing of AWS
- Who wants DBaS (DB as service) and still want to be the one who can control the DB and it's parameters
Great features -->
- It comes with Oracle Compatibility so you can easily migrate an in-house Oracle Application to Postgres Plus in Cloud!
- All the enterprise features of EnterpriseDB PPAS are available
- You can scale up the replicas as load goes high
- Scaling down is "Automatic" to keep a check on cost
- Auto-healing to replace the lost master with one of the replicas
- Replication continues to other slaves from new slave
- Auto-backup features
Ideal use-case (IMHO)-->
- You are starting new, you can start with one instance and grow as your business and work load grows
- You are thinking of migrating from Oracle but can invest upfront in Hardware and PPAS Lic. Then go for PPCD for a POC of Oracle Migration.
- You can even move completely from an in-house Proprietary DB to PPCD and phase out your in-house DB slowly.
What's there for a DBA-
I loved it! Make your life far more easier as a DBA.
As DBA you would want to define backup policies, define workload scaling and not do the monotonous task of continuously monitoring DB for disk space usage, load, I/O etc or take routine backups.
A DBA can do more quality job and dedicate his attention on defining such policies and rules!

This is the perfect "Postgres as a service"
We were looking for a supported Postgresql service and we've found that EDB provides the perfect solution for a highly available and Oracle compatible database, that can escale up and out, and that simplifies the most common administrative tasks, as replication, backup, etc...
