    Why Bitnami?

Was great until they suddenly cancelled it

This was working great and we deployed it company wide. Now Bitnami no longer supports it and also deleted all relevant maintenance documentation so we can no long maintain the site.

This is a warning to those using Bitnami for production company projects.

Great solution for sharing files

We used an FTP server, an SFTP server, OneDrive, and DropBox in the past with 3rd parties in the past and there have always been little issues here and there. Our FTP and SFTP solution pointed to internal servers and required us to poke holes in our firewall which were noted in IT Audits which posed a problem. Then DropBox was pricey, and OneDrive worked well but required both parties to have a license to use it effectively for 2 way sharing. In the end, I searched through AWS and decided to try OwnCloud with a t3a.small instance. This seems to be the best solution!

I simply create users, groups, and shared folders. People can only view resources within their groups, and once we set up a user with an account, everyone is able to upload and download files that were too large to email (databases and the like). After some configuration with DNS settings, we have a designated EC2 instance set up that took under an hour to do, and our problems are solved! This is a great image if you want to get up and running quickly!

Less than pleased

I'm sorry. I have tried a lot. This just doesn't work with S3 buckets. Tried everything. It's either not connecting or not being able to create folders or sync files. For some reason I can't even do it via s3fs. On my other EC2 ubuntu instance s3fs works without any problem. After searching for solution and seeing a lot of people having issues that can't be fixed I have to say that owncloud isn't worth your time. But nextcloud (yes - forked owncloud) works like a charm. Simple install (snap), S3 used as main storage. Absolutely no problems.

Easy with a few clicks

ownCloud AMI was easy to install and configure. With a few clicks i got running my ownCloud. The only bad thing is that the default volume only had 10GB of storage, but was very easy to solve.

I needed a collaboration environment for a research project and this was near trivial to setup and I've got only positive responses from the users so I highly recommend it to people looking for a painless deployment of this very good collaboration environment

Perfect for Newbies (and probably also for Pros)

I am quite ok with handling PC/Mac at a user level, but totally inexperienced in setting up a server or installing software on the server. I had to look up (probably the most basic) unix commands to to install OwnCloud in a new EC2 Instance over SHH in the Mac terminal, all looked great (to me) - but I couldn't access the http://IP.owncloud.com page. Spent about 2 hours. No success.
Then I tried ownCloud powered by BitNami and it took me10 minutes. It even takes care of setting up the EC2 Instance for you. Highly recommended!
